NWANDI N. LAWSON
My only goal is to leave the world more beautiful and beneficial than when I inherited it.
Drawing on decades of experience as a journalist and media producer and a lifelong commitment to transcending differences, Nwandi Lawson recognizes that there are many ways to build vibrant, unified communities. Whether producing and anchoring newscasts, educational series and documentaries for CNN and public broadcasting stations or helping individuals and organizations learn to communicate with magnetic clarity, Nwandi has remained focused on the ways that groups divide themselves and approaches to strengthening collective vision, even among those who have traditionally been hostile to one another. Since 2015 her role as Chief Cultivation Officer for The Virtues Collective has enabled her to learn about productive communication with non-profit organizations, schools, and media companies.
Nwandi has been elected to serve two terms on the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS)-Southeast Chapter. She has been a Telly Award finalist and was awarded a Sigma Delta Chi/Society of Professional Journalists Green Eyeshade Award for television deadline reporting. In 2000, the Coalition for a Healthy & Responsible Georgia (CHARGE) named her Television Journalist of the Year for coverage of tobacco settlement funds allocation in Georgia. She is also the recipient of a Southern Regional Emmy Award for the live production of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards. Business and Professional Women named Nwandi 2008 Georgia Woman of Achievement.
Nwandi is the mother of two daughters, a community activator in her South Dekalb, Georgia neighborhood, and a member Principal Advisory Council for her local public school. She earned an MBA from Emory University and an undergraduate degree in journalism from Howard University.
